Have Stakes Will Travel Stories From the World of Jane Yellowrock A Penguin Special From New American L ibrary eBook Faith Hunter

This is a wonderful collection of four short works from the world of Jane Yellowrock. What makes it worth reading is the variety of points of view in the various tales. We have a story, "We Sa," which is told from Jane's Beast's point of view. She does this sort of thing in her novels, but this takes the reader way back in Jane's history and is a great addition to her back story. Then we have, "Haints," which is told from the point of view of Jane's best friend, Molly Everhart Trueblood. It is a great way to see how Jane is seen by another person. The last two works are from Jane's perspective. One, "Signatures of the Dead was published previously in the anthology, "Strange Brew." Good story. Finally is a short work, "Cajun with Fangs," which takes place right after the end of "Raven Cursed," and is a sort of lead-in to "Death's Rival." As Ms Hunter says in her forward, "(It was) a blast." There is also a healthy chunk of the beginning of "Death's Rival" that serves to fatten the book, but fans of the series are going to read the novel in its entirety anyhow, so, the final bit is something of a waste, which is why I only gave it four stars. Recommended for obsessive fans of the series (like me).

Have Stakes Will Travel Stories From the World of Jane Yellowrock A Penguin Special From New American L ibrary eBook Faith Hunter Reviews

Bought more from this author after reading the first book.
Stories hinted at in other novels are nice to have read. This let readers know the background of people in Jane's life.
Early on I was hooked by Faith Hunter's Jane Yellowrock books. And while I read each book in the series one after the other I noticed that this short story was missing. I'm so glad that I found it. You will enjoy it too!
Faith Hill gets better & better with every story. The last in the 2nd Compilation (Have Stakes, Will Travel) is lighthearted with an easy, fun & happy ending. Read them all...you'll be *hooked* !!
Enjoyed reading these novellas. They were great short stories and easy to read and pick up and put down depending on your time
I really dislike writting reviews even though some authors are quite inspiring. Reading is one of my favorites forms of entertainment and with the advent ebooks and self published authors, the number of new published books are staggering. It seems the only way to get to the books/authors I like are to leave a review. Most books I read already have well thought out reviews that I generally agree with. In most cases I only leave a review if I either really enjoyed the book or hated it. So, for this particular book I concur with the other five star reviews and leave this review to show support and to encourage timely future books. I thank the author for an affordable good story.
Not quite as good as Patricia Briggs but good character and plot development over the series. A bit more explanation for those who start reading at a later place in the book cycle would help them be a better stand alone story. It is slightly dark, but not enough to interfere with the story or the enjoyment of this new fantasy world. The primary character is Native American, and as ususal in this genre, written as the 'exotic other' without a lot of research with the tribal members who would straighten out some of the loose threads about Cherokee theology which would heighten the experience while avoiding the stereotypical aspects of the heroine. I expect the writer will also mature over time and tighten up a few loose lines in plots and between characters.
