Lady Be Bad The Merry Widows Series Candice Hern 9780451221919 Books
This book was one hell of an emotional rollercoaster. Wow. No really. Wow! I liked the first book in the series but was so taken by Grace that when I saw this book on sale I immediately snapped it up. There are spoilers of course since this is the 3rd book and perhaps final, but I will probably still grab the 2nd one in time. But this book was far too good to pass up. It was actually quite amazing. The writing was stellar, the plot was fantastic, but the true gems were Lord Rochdale and Grace Marlowe. Grace is the epitome of the Incomparable, the Diamond of the First Water, the Absolute Ideal of Regency England and she is also the kindest, most gentle, honestly caring person in the world. She is flawed, she is not perfection, but she is the perfect heroine. This is the damsel who could capture unicorns, and in this case, one particularly intractable steed. Enter our delicious hero. Yum. Tall, Dark, handsome, rakish rogue with blue eyes. Ah Perfection. But truly, our Lord Rochdale is not a Libertine seeking redemption, he is a man seeking his next fix and it occurs in three parts: coveted horse, risky wager, supremely desirable woman. The story centers around Rochdale' s attempt to seduce prim and proper Grace and Grace' s gradual awakening into what it really means to be herself completely and unashamedly. Of course the wager comes to light and both characters do rash things but ultimately it ends in the only way it can and what an ending it was. This book was fun, funny, and tear-inducing. A thrilling ride. Very very highly recommended. One small warning, it is not clean, but the intimacy scenes are very artistic and add to the whole.Tags : Lady Be Bad: The Merry Widows Series [Candice Hern] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Lady Be Bad The Merry Widows Series Candice Hern 9780451221919 Books Reviews
Just finished reading the last book in the Merry Widows trilogy,Lady be Bad. I loved this series. Each can be read on it's own, but I think they are better if read in order. IN each story you are able to get drawn into each woman's life. Read about the lack of passion they had in their marriage. Though the marriages were not unhappy, they were definitely lacking passion and in some cases respect for the women. But those men who awaken the passion, all I can is WOW! Read this series. You will love each woman, and the men who showed them passion and love.
I have enjoyed every book I have read by Candice Hern, and look forward to reading more of her books. I have discovered another favorite author who will be on autobuy.
I have enjoyed the Merry Widows Series, and Candice Hern saves the best for last with Lady Be Bad! Okay, so maybe this story is a bit predictable, but how can one go wrong with the "Reformed Rake" storyline combined with a "Bet" storyline.
Grace Marlowe is a repressed woman with a capital R! She is the widow of the late Bishop and has been brainwashed into believing that passion is synonymous with sin! John Grayston is a jaded rake who has sworn off women for any other purpose besides pleasure. He has a horrible reputation in contrast to Grace's impeccable reputation.
John accepts a bet (over a horse!) to seduce Grace which is the premise of this book.
This unlikely couple is made believable by the skilled writing of Hern. She develops this relationship slowly and carefully....first developing a friendship before developing their romance. I appreciate this tactic. We are allowed to "get to know" both of these characters in a way that highlights their similarities rather than their outward differences. I love a reformed rake, and John Grayston may rank up there as one of my all time favorites!
This is a sweet and convincing romance that will have you smiling, sighing, and wanting to read it again!
It`s been a little while since I read this book but when asked me for a review I felt I had to write one. The reason? I found the book very enjoyable and can recommend it to anyone who wants sweet and hot romance.
The topic - a rake meets an innocent - has been used and over-used in historical romance. I like it but I`m a bit tired of it too because some authors fail to describe just why the innocent would ever fall for the rake and why the rake would even look twice at the innocent. This is not the case in this book. We see how they learn new sides of each other and thus are given a very good explanation as to why they would fall for each other.
It`s also a very hot book. If you`re looking for an innocent HR, this is not the book for you. But I liked it because it was well done. The hot parts weren`t just there to sell the book but because they fit the characters and how they found each other and grew closer.
I liked the whole series (The Merry Widows) but read them out of order. It`s not exactly a problem to do so but you`re in for a few spoilers if you do.
Fantastic.
I am rabid for good character driven books and Lady Be Bad was one of the best. Lord Rochdale was the perfect foil against Lady Marlowe's virtue. It was, as stated comically in the story, the Libertine and the Bishop's Widow.
So subtle, so elegantly entwined, so undelineated was the magic that Ms. Hern wove. His development, his growth, his change, his "becoming" was so expertly done, I shed tears several times while reading.
Grace's, Lady Marlow, change was astounding, too. To be able to look so rationally at what her life had been, and how it had made sense at the time, was insightful enough. But to also be able to allow herself to accept the changes being with John encouraged made her a memorable character. That she was able to balance both parts of her life so graciously was nothing short of brilliance delivered through Ms. Hern's writing skills.
Then, the denouement, so a la Shakespeare's best confusions, was just so appropriate. Grace was so enraged, then John was so betrayed...It made the ending so very satisfying. Yes, and tear shed-worthy.
I absolutely LOVED this book and gave it 5 stars despite the few grammatical/editorial gaffes. It was great.
