Raven's Children (5 stars) is a rollicking yarn that takes up where The Long Way Home left off.The protagonist, Moire Cameron is now a Captain in her own right with a loyal crew and the same pack of evil corporate types is out to get her.
The Long Way Home introduced a mystery of where and how Moire's son came to be. This mystery provides the axis about which this novel and it's title turns.
In Raven's Children Moire manages to make some more friends and some questionable allies as well.
When I reviewed The Long Way Home I noted how she provides answers to prior story questions and uses the answers to raise more questions. She manages to satisfactorily resolve story questions along the way.
In Raven's Children there is still a war going on with the aliens and, Toren, the evil corporation's insidious plan appears to be advancing rapidly.
In contrast to The Long Way Home, Raven's Children shows Moire doing more than just running from Toren (the evil corporation), but she is hitting back. This is good, because we've already seen a lot of Moira fleeing the bad guys. In fact, the stuff Toren is throwing at Moire is now serving to make her stronger.

Raven Children Sequoyah Book 2 eBook Sabrina Chase Reviews
I liked the first installment in this series and the sequel did not disappoint. The main characters are interesting and the situations they face exciting. It has bit of gritty noir-feel to it as well. There are some less convincing bits, like how the main character keeps "bumping into" places and issues critical to the story and her survival, but then this is fiction. I also like the leadership issues, as well as the adult romance. Well worth a read.
If you like Elizabeth Moon or David Weber's Honor Harrington you'll love Sabrina Chase's Sequoyah books. Raven's Children is the second of a trilogy (The Long Way Home, being the first book) and is even better than the first. A fast paced read with plenty of action the characters are three dimensional and engaging. Moire as grown into a character I like even better than I did in the first book. My only compliant being that the book ends without finishing the story, and the next one isn't out yet.
Also this book has less typos than any ebook I have seen, either Sabrina has a topnotch copyeditor or the story was so engaging that I didn't notice the typos.
Deeper emotional involvement, both between characters and between reader and characters, same fast moving, action-filled plot. That means this book is even more of an adrenaline rush, but also more touching. Another read straight through, off to the third and final story!
Moire's story continues in this second book of the series. She's the pseudo-mother to several hundred rescued kids in adult bodies - the Created. Still being hunted, she ends up avoiding most of the hunters (except maybe the one she didn't mind being caught by, except she seems to have caught him). Too much to discuss without giving away the story.... Looking forward to the third book.
I can't get enough of Sabrina Chase and in case your wondering this book is amazing. The characters have depth and act like real people would in their situations. The book has a life of its own and characters that feel real enough to touch. The story is compelling and intense. It has mysteries and suspense. If you read this while trying to go to sleep you might have a hard time. Thank you Ms. Chase for the wonderful book.
If you've read the first Sequoyah you know this one is going to be good.
This is not quite as focussed as the first book of trilogy, but introduces a huge range of interesting elements, settings, and plot complications. The elements which swarm into view here are all going to be resolved in the third book, which brings this trilogy to a stunning conclusion. Hard-sci-fi of the finest water, with more human interest than many. The leading lady is not (quite) superhuman, but has luck and ability which are not quite too much to keep us from identifying with her. I confess that I downloaded the first book as an freebie, and liked it well enough to buy the second and third parts immediately. Highly recommended, especially to anyone who likes Elizabeth Moon, Robert Heinlein, Jerry Pournelle, Roland Green, C.J. Cherryh, Lois Bujold, etc.
Most middle books in a series suffer in comparision to the first and last books. The novelty of the first book is gone and the satisfying conclusion in the last book has not arrived. This book has enough action and development to avoid this fate. Moire Cameron and Commander Byron Ennis are not resting from their labors, but speeding full speed ahead in both separate and joint adventures. Read this series, it is GOOD!
I was fortunate in receiving an Advance Reading Copy of the final book in the trilogy from the author. You need to read this book to get to the satisfying conclusion of a VERY good science fiction series.
