The Night Is Mine Night Stalkers M L Buchman 0760789234002 Books
Got this one due to the scenario + action, **but especially because it was a Romance written by a male...***I was hooked from the beginning.
It's easy to read, good descriptions & characterization, and fun, and funny;
author obviously has background or experience with the subject (military/SOAR)
(Obsession).
(either that, or it's just cuz he's a BOY)
I'm not surprised I like this, because it moves along & gets into the action and isn't too romantic, but more realistic, and not too
"heavy". So far there's no over-sentimentality..
Not to mention, a dude writing about such a cool female main character (i think--i'm only on p40):
WOW; impressive.
I'm excited about what's going to happen next, because the book has 2 Awesome components:
1) It keeps popping up in my consciousness (when i'm doing other things--including watching TV);
2) It feels like i paused a really great, intriguing movie...and i gotta get back to it & hit Play again
(ie: if this book had a movie, I can already tell 'the book's better than the movie'.

The Night Is Mine Night Stalkers M L Buchman 0760789234002 Books Reviews
More suspense than romance, but it had enough that it kept me interested. I don't usually read military books, because after spending 20 years in the military they are usually so far off base that I get very frustrated with how unrealistic they are. I didn't have that issue with this book. It stayed very close to reality and I enjoyed the military aspects. In fact, I wish they would have stayed in Afghanistan because the one thing I didn't like was the plot with the first lady just didn't make a lot of sense. I figured out "who" was attacking the first lady but couldn't figure out why, and even after they explained it, it didn't make much sense to me. The romance was sweet, tender and hot. I loved the H's character and really enjoyed that he was very honorable and put her career and needs above his feelings for her. I liked the h, but she was so unbelievable talented it was a little unrealistic. All the information about flight mechanics did have a tendency to bog the book down a little as well. I will get the next book for sure.
I loved this book! I had read a couple reviews and I was on the fence, but I was desperate for a new author to like/love. So far I am definitley in like and if book 2 is as enjoyable headed for in love.
Emily was Superwoman but the author pretty much flat out tells you that. She is gorgeous, a genius, and can kick butt. Pretty great combination, (at times a little hard to believe ALL of her accomplishments) but I loved her character so much that I did not care, which is surprising because normally it is one of my pet peeves.
The story had really phenomanal action scenes (especially for this genre) some of the helicopter details were really top notch. You could really visualize what was happening when Emily was brining the chopper down to rescue Michael.
And the chef to the first lady, I was wondering at that point if the story was jumping the shark, but the author totally pulls it off. I loved Frank Adams, too bad he was married, I would have liked his story.
How crazy is this that I am this far in a review and have not even mentioned Mark the Hero who was sigh pretty perfect! LOVED HIM. He is the perfect man ).
As stated as soon as I finished I purchased the next book, crossing my fingers I love it as much. This book is worth the price. It is very action oriented the romance is there, but is is more an underlying tension in the book. Not super graphic. So if you like action with a side of romance this one is for you.
Finally, finally, finally!! I'm a huge Suzanne Brockmann fan and I've been desperate to find a similar writer since she currently in hiatus. I believe I've found one in M. L. Buchman. This book had everything I look for in a story; strong, believable characters, high adventure, action packed scenes, with a touch of romance. What makes Buchman stand out from the rest is the real research that goes into writing the technical stuff. Emily and Mark are SOAR pilots and the descriptions of the missions and the flying and of the helicopters themselves were a testament of the writer wanting and needing to get their information right and correct because they know their readers aren't dummies. I hate reading that a character is some sort of Navy SEAL and the only reference to his job is that he is a big muscular guy who's tough and knows how to fight. That could be anybody! But Buchman understood that a real bad ass SOAR pilot would be cool and calm under pressure and smart and quick thinking when faced with problems. Emily is a tough chick that's paid her dues to be the only female SOAR pilot ever. She's a strong woman that doesn't have to act like a man to be accepted into the boys club of tough helicopter combat pilots. Mark is her CO that treats her with the utmost respect while still harbouring an inappropriate crush on her. Emily finds herself manipulated into a black ops situation and with the help of Mark, she works the mission. Mark helps her, he does not rescue her! Emily does not need rescuing, let me just emphasize that! Mark is a true partner and I loved that about him. I am now going to end this review so I can devour anything and everything that M. L. Buchman has written.
