This is the continuing 'First Class' saga that centers around Katy, who is had gone through a horrific 30-hour period of time after Janie's (books one and two) neighbor had lured her in order to kidnap, assault, and terrorize her. What a brave and strong woman Katy is shown to be in this story, as she works through the process of recovery. I really liked the interaction between Katy and her therapist. It was written in-depth and we readers got the true feel for the anger and pain that Katy needed to work through in order to 'get on' with her life and get her 'zest for life' back. The addition of Mark (Matt's younger brother - books one and two). Mark is everything Katy could see as her Mr. Right except for the fact that after the attack, she isn't looking for romance, or men. Mark for his part feels the pull towards Katy and knows he must tread lightly so he settles for being a supportive friend. Thankfully, Katy accepts his friendship - for the most part. To me Mark is about the opposite of Matt and this reader appreciated the differences in personality and lifestyle.
What ensues is a romance that builds very slowly and according to Katy's recovery process. It is also interwoven with the legal processes that must happen in order for the criminal (who hurt Katy)' to be put through the legal system. This also involved Janie since the creep had also hurt her as she had tried to save Katy - after finding out where she was being held against her will. Mark is present for much of this whole process and even though he lives in New York which is thousands of miles from Portland, OR. It isn't until the whole legal mess is over that Katy can have the emotional closure she needs in order to move ahead. It's at that point that things get pretty romantic and HOT. This was a very natural progression in the healing strength of us human beings.
I absolutely loved this book. The ending......was simply beautiful. I'm hoping Mark and Katy show up in further books down the road. There are still FOUR brothers that are free to mingle and find that special woman. Thank you dear authoress!

I absolutely LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this book! Katy is beyond awesome and Mark... Wow Mark! I thought Janie and Matt's sexual chemistry was hot, but Katy and Mark's is right up there. This story is so true of someone dealing with an attack. Now if women could just believe in themselves like Katy did not only for the crime but for herself. I just love this series and it keeps getting better!
A total of seven Lathem brothers?!?! Three are taken... Who will be the next? I can't wait to find out which Lathem Brother will be invading the dreams of a very deserving woman!
First of all I adore Janie she's cute but I absolutely LOVE KATE! Her determination and fight to not be a VICTIM but needs help to find her way made her a true survivor. She still possessed her spunk throughout her ordeal even though she closed down at times.. Basically, this book shows us what happens with Mark and Katey and her upcoming trial against Danny.. During this time Mark fights with when is the right time to make a move with Kate because he has fallen for her and fell hard. Kate was confused with what she was feeling from comfort, protected, friendly, and maybe romantic feelings? She had too much going on and I'm Sooo happy that the author didn't make this an ooohh I am going through this trauma. It I'm still so blissfully happy and in love plot because that would've been unrealistic. This story was amazing, the characters are great, Kate had her break down over the other young lady- Shelby and truly started her healing at that point and it was just beautiful how everything came together. Matt is too funny playing matchmaker now. Lol! Mark was amazing. His character and his role was perfect and be was a great match for Kate! Great read! I'm definitely investing in the other books but have to take a break as I have ignored my husband for almost 2 days reading these books! Lol!
I loved this book for so many different reasons. The first one being the fantastic way this author portrayed what Katy had went through, during her kidnapping & near rape situation. She didn't just skim over it, nor did she insinuate that the heroine recovered over night. She had the guts to really delve in and check the facts about what happens to victims who suffer through this kind of a horrible ordeal, just like Katy did. She actually took the time to show us that what Katy went through, puts a real toll on the victim both mentally and physically. She covered everything, including the feeling dirty & guilty afterwards, the feelings of not being good enough for anyone else afterwards, and about how hard it was for them to finally reach out & seek mental help. Then there's the fear of leaving your own house, or being alone in your house again. The nightmares they go through, or the trials they have to find the strength to get through, while not trying to show the fear of facing their attacker, even if it's in court with authorities all around them. IMO- The scene's were very well written and were more true to life, than most books I've recently read. So my Kudo's go out to A J Harmon, for doing such a great job on that aspect of the story.
I also loved & enjoyed this series, because the people and the situations surrounding them seem so real, and much less contrived than most romance books of today. And let me also say; that I love the whole Lathem family. They have to be the sweetest, most loving family around. Even though they had a son come out as gay, they did what all parents should do They kept on loving him unconditionally, & accepted him for who he was, without shame. I also like the fact that they also accepted his partner, as part of their family, too. What more could anyone possibly ask for, they... IMO- are the perfect family.
Would I recommend this book? I would not only highly recommend this book, but the whole series, too!
